Ghyasuddin Tughlaq who captured the throne of Delhi in 1321 raised the 3rd city of Delhi by raising massive fortification of Tughlaqabad with immense circular bastions and gateways to withstand the siege of Mongols which was a recurrent phenomenon of that time. Its location provided the natural advantage over the invaders and fort was built with amazing speed with provision for 7 water tanks, multiple granaries and secret passages in fort complex. It was not just a fort but a fortified city which according to a popular legend was deserted because of the curse of Sufi Saint Sheikh Nizamuddun Auliya. Was it really a case? This Sunday let’s walk in this dead city (which no less than a adventure by itself) and let’s explore the history of this structure and its makers. Places covered in Walk: Tughlaqabad City Walls – Citadel – Ghyasuddin Tomb – Adilabad Fort – Nai ka Fort – Water system–Secret passage – Jami Mosque – Zennana – Hall of Audience
